Fast fashion as a problem
What good is sustainable washing if we keep buying more and more clothes that barely survive a dozen washes? We're talking about an industry where shirts cost less than a cappuccino. The price of this system: exploited workers, polluted rivers, and a huge ecological footprint.
Everyone is aware of the problem, and surveys show that many people are ashamed of fast fashion and their consumption habits.
The business model of the throwaway society
Switzerland disposes of around 25 kilograms of clothing per capita every year. At the same time, we are buying more and more items that often end up in the trash after just a few washes because we no longer like them or because they are not durable. The price we pay for this system: exploited workers, polluted rivers, and a huge ecological footprint.
Green Circle says that Swiss people wear around 40% of their clothes two to four times at most.
Washo makes SLOW!
We want to change this industry and this behavior. To do this, we need basic textiles that deliver what we promise. Textiles that are timeless, high-quality, and very durable. The opposite of fast fashion!
Focus on durability
The focus is on product durability. A typical example is socks, which are usually cheaply made and develop holes after only a few wears. SLOW! relies on high-quality raw materials, long-staple organic cotton, and a special knitting pattern with reinforced soles. This ensures comfort and durability. We developed them together with Austrian sock specialist Lenz.
To ensure that quality is not just a claim but a true promise, SLOW! offers a one-year anti-hole guarantee on socks.. There are European standards and testing methods for the durability of socks, and the quality has been confirmed by the German Textile Research Center.
Fair and integrated production
For SLOW! shirts , we work with the Swiss brand Switcher—remember them? They're the ones from back in the day! Pioneers and now back in business! Both brands stand for sustainability, fair production, and durability. Production takes place where the best cotton grows: in India. The best thing about it is that all stages of production—from harvesting the cotton to manufacturing the yarn and jersey fabric, dyeing and sewing—take place within a radius of just 20 kilometers.
