Washo stain doctor: Coffee stains

Coffee stains? Help, the morning was already stressful enough!

"Just a quick sip of coffee..." – and bang: your white sweater isn't quite so white anymore.

🔍 The diagnosis

A classic in my practice: coffee stains – popular, stubborn, and always at the wrong time. But don't worry, Dr. Washo knows what to do. And you don't even need chemicals!

🚨 Immediate help & Important:

  • Dab the stain with a clean cloth or paper towel – don't rub!
  • Rinse the stain with cold water from the back (so that the coffee doesn't settle deeper into the fibers).

🧽 Step-by-step instructions

  1. Soaking:
Place the garment in cold water for approx. 15–30 minutes.
Tip: A dash of vinegar or lemon juice helps to loosen the color pigments. Tip: Carbonated mineral water is even better than normal tap water. The carbon dioxide helps to loosen the color particles.
  2. Natural pre-treatment:
Gently rub the stain with a mixture of:
  3. Washing:
Wash the garment as usual. If you want to be on the safe side, add some Washo Active Oxygen to the washing machine – this is particularly helpful for older stains.

Dos & Don'ts

Do this:

  • Start with cold water
  • Use natural household remedies such as baking soda, vinegar, or lemon juice
  • Work gently, do not rub

Avoid this:

  • Use hot water (it sets the stain)
  • Let the stain dry
  • Bleach on colored clothing—it often does more harm than good

🧪 Other home remedies & Life hacks

🍋 Lemon juice
As a regular customer at Dr. You guessed it. Lemon juice has a slight bleaching effect. Simply drizzle it directly onto the fresh stain and leave it to work for 10 minutes, then rinse.

🧂 Salt?
Sprinkle coarse sea salt onto the stain while it is still damp. This will draw the color of the coffee and liquid out of the fabric. Then brush it off gently and treat the area.

🥣 Baking soda or baking powder:
Mix with a little water to form a paste, apply, and leave to work for 10-15 minutes. Then rinse with water.

The miracle cure

Extra tip from the stain doctor

Stain removers are usually not very effective on tea and coffee stains. These stains can be bleached and are not grease-soluble.

Therefore, if you are late with the treatment:
Washo Active Oxygen provides that extra boost in the wash cycle, bleaches, and performs perfectly with the integrated washing soda.
