Immediately after the visit
During our visitu.a . , weu.a. met the following children:
Joyce, 17,
lives with her mother and two siblings in a small 9-square-meter mud hut. A bed with old foam scraps serves as a place to sleep, and cooking is done on a fire pit on the floor. There is no toilet.
(UPDATE from September 2) 2025) We have now brought a mattress, pillows, curtains, bedding, and a mosquito net. We have also brought food and a water tank. A solar lamp will also improve the situation. In addition, Joyce will now be able to attend a boarding school nearby (Usambara Girls Secondary School), where education, accommodation, games, and food are provided during the week. We will continue to support Joyce's education and training in the long term. The toilet that is currently missing at the family's hut is under construction and will greatly improve the overall situation for the whole family.
Yusuf, 15,
is an orphan and often shares only one meal a day with his 6-year-old brother. He earns a living doing odd jobs.
(UPDATE from September 2)2025) Forest Focus is currently working with neighbors and schools to determine how the situation for the children can be improved in the long term. In the short term, we have helped with simple accommodation and food. The children no longer have to go hungry and can attend school. Long-term support is provided by our partner organization, and assistance is continuously adapted to their needs.
Emanuel, 17,
is the best student in his school and wants to become an ophthalmologist. He can only continue his education with financial assistance.
(UPDATE from September 2, 2025)Emanuel will complete secondary school and then take national exams, after which he will likely begin his studies. Washo will finance his studies in the long term.
Our visit made it clear to us that poverty is not an abstract concept, but has names and faces.
